Creating Sub-Sites
Create a sub-site within a site collection to group related content. Any site can contain many different lists and libraries, so sub-sites are really a tool for organizing those lists and libraries. For example, you might create a sub-site for each project within the Construction department. Each project sub-site might contain a library for designs, a task list, a discussion board, and a calendar. Using sub-sites lets the names of those lists and libraries be the same for each project and lets you create a custom site template to make site creation easier. To create a sub-site within a site collection:
1. Navigate to the top-level site in the collection.
2. In WSS, click Site Actions -> Sites and Workspaces and complete the New SharePoint Site page. In MOSS, click Site Actions -> Create Site and complete the page.
