Organizing Documents with Folders
Organize documents into folders when migrating from network drives or when working with a large number of files. When migrating network drives to SharePoint, you can just drag/drop folders from the drive into the library as shown in Figure.Figure: You can upload whole folders by dragging them into SharePoint
The advantage of this approach is that users are often already familiar with the folder structure. There’s no point in changing it!
Drag/drop can have some problems, however. Uploads fail if a filename or folder name contains any of these characters: &, ?, %, or .. (two periods together). If a name like that occurs anywhere in the batch of files you are uploading, you’ll get an error message stating “An error occurred copying some or all of the selected files.” You need to rename the file and then retry uploading.
